Railmen Open the PNWJLL Season with a Victory

Posted by Saanich Express at Apr 25, 2019 2:05AM PDT

Your Saanich Express traveled up to Nanaimo last evening to face the Nanaimo Timbermen for the Pacific Northwest Junior Lacrosse Leagues season opener.
Fans in attendance were treated to some great action to start the game as both teams went back and forth with neither goalie wanting to give up the first goal.
The score was not indicative of the play as Nanaimo hustled and worked hard for every loose ball and possession, keeping the Express moving at all times. This game saw minimal infractions and good clean lacrosse throughout.
The Railmen did hold period leads of 6-0, 11-1 and the final was 15-5. The Timbermens’ “Never Give-Up” play made for an exciting game, especially the third period.
Player of the Game for the Express… John Etzel with 3G, 8A, 11PTS.

The Saanich Express Junior Lacrosse Club is holding a silent auction at our Beer & Burger Fundraiser that will take place at the Boondocks Pub Restaurant in Sidney on Sunday May 19th at 6:00pm. We are asking parents, friends and businesses in the Greater Victoria area if they could make a donation in the way of items, product, a service or cash. Your contribution will help make this fundraiser a success for our young athletes.

There is a large financial commitment required to operate our lacrosse club. We are part of the Pacific Northwest Junior Lacrosse League that competes from April until the middle of August. Teams consist of the Campbell River Ravens, Oceanside Sharks, Nanaimo Timbermen, Cowichan Thunder, Westshore Bears and the Saanich Express.

Our league mandates a set league registration fee to keep lacrosse affordable for every player. Gaming funds are another avenue to assist teams with their operation but unfortunately, the Express did not receive these funds this season.

Our revenue will be obtained through the moderate player registrations, jersey sponsorship, program sponsorship/advertising and gate receipts. If you or your business is willing to generously donate to the Express, please contact our Governor (Andrea Churchill –, Fundraising Coordinator (Christy Tytgat – or General Manager (Tyson Leies –

Thank you for your consideration.
