Japanese Students Study Box Lacrosse with Saanich Express
The Saanich Express have welcomed International students and players to experience the Canadian Box Lacrosse game during their school break in Japan.
Masato Takao operates the Athlete Academic Abroad-study Agency (http://ato.academy) and along with Yoshiki Kato provide Japanese students with a variety of sporting experiences during their spring and summer breaks in their school year. “A to Inc.” has been working with Canadian Hall of Famer and current General Manager and Head Coach of the Saanich Express Tyson Leies, to provide a rare experience for these student athletes.
“This was truly a rare opportunity for these Japanese student athletes as they have not experienced the Canadian box lacrosse game other than watching National Lacrosse League games on their televisions or on computers. The players are primarily field lacrosse talents whom wished to give box lacrosse a try while they visited our Country and the great City of Victoria.”
These students (Yoshiki Kato, Shohei Aota, Kensuke Kikuchi, and Yasuhiro Hirade) will be working out with the Saanich Express Jr. Lacrosse Club for the next 2 weeks. Coaching assistants Connor Leies and Jorden Tytgat are assisting this endeavor with current members of the team, free agents looking to play for the Express and even current midget players have been invited to participate with the club and students (these players must contact the club to participate).
“We are hopeful that this experience will be a rewarding one for these participants” says Governor Andrea Churchill. "We’ve already begun to plan for the next group of athletes to visit in early September to do the same thing and then get bonus time on the turf with Pacific Rim Field Lacrosse.
