Express Don't Disappoint Fans! PNWJLL Final Series Tied Up
The Saanich Express and Westshore Bears took to the floor at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Sunday July 28th for Game #2 of their Best of 3 series. Both teams looked a little nervous to start the game but the home team got on the board first with Will Hale burying one after a sweet pick and roll with Brayden Flynn. They got their 2nd goal with 5 minutes to go whem Mason Lo fed Ben Baxter and he drove around Lo’s pick to make the score 2-0. The Bears sniped one with 4:46 remaining in the first to get on the scoreboard and send the teams to intermission with Saanich up by the score of 2-1.
The Bears would score twice in the first 5 minutes to take the lead but this was an action packed game with each team working their magic and anything could happen. In the last half of the 2nd period, the Express’ Mike Johansen lasered one to tie the game at 2 apiece. Robbie Walker and Will Hale would set up Bryan Toth’s go ahead goal and Ben Baxter would bury his 2nd of the game to give the home team a 2nd intermission 5-3 lead.
Westshore would score a quarter of the way into the 3rd period to bring the game within one, but then just seconds later, Nolan Morrison of the Express would score off a Harstad face-off win increase their lead back to two. Brenden Harstad would score coming across the crease and then Andre Snow would take one end to end after a huge defensive effort to make the score 8-4. The Bears would make the score 8-5 with just over 5 minutes to go but then with their goalie pulled and extra attacker on the floor; a tightly contested exchange after a Bears pass caused a loose ball opportunity and the Express’ Brady Williams scooped up a loose ball and ran to center before taking a 60 ft. shot in to the open net to seal the win 9-5.
With the series tied up at 1-1, Game #3 takes place on Thursday August 1st at 8:00pm at the Q Centre Arena. You don’t want to miss it!
